On March 31, 2026, the home of Kevin and Carla Czarnota from Madison, Alabama had a kitchen fire that caused considerable damage. The family of 12 will be displaced for an undetermined amount of time. This is a family that has opened their hearts and home to dozens of children over the years. Kevin is a paraplegic that at the time of the fire was confined to the bed. He had to be physically removed by fire and rescue teams. Since he was on oxygen and had taken in some smoke, he has been admitted to the hospital. Carla and the children are currently staying in a hotel, their 3 small dogs, cat, and bearded dragon are being boarded at their local veterinarian. Thankfully, there was no loss of life and the loss of personal belongings will be minimal to moderate. However, everything in the house has been touched by smoke and will have to be washed and cleaned before being usable. That alone is substantial with a family of this size. They did lose lots of food, both frozen and refrigerated, as well as some shelf stable foods including hard to find prescription baby formula that will have to be replaced. They have already had expenses for personal items to get by as they try to even figure out their next steps.

In the coming weeks and months, Kevin and Carla will probably have needs that have not yet been thought of. They are currently working toward finding more suitable temporary housing that can accommodate such a large family with varying needs. Your donation will help them recover from this devastating event and provide the stability they need to move forward.
