Support The Cove Center for Grieving Children

Tax deductible
Friends, family and colleagues -

I recently joined the Board of Directors for The Cove Center for Grieving Children, which is a non-profit organization that aims to provide hope and healing to grieving children, teens and their families. Founded in 1995 in Guilford, CT, The Cove now supports hundreds of families across the state through family group programs, virtual sessions for teens and young adults, a male caregiver group and its annual bereavement camp. All of this programming is offered to families at no cost.

As many of you know, the cause is deeply personal for me. When I was 25 and my sister was 15, my mom passed away from cancer - I've seen first-hand the tremendous impact that programming like that offered by the Cove can have in helping teens and their families.

My ask: In honor of The Cove's 27th anniversary, the board is committed to raising $27,000 to support children across Connecticut on their grief journeys. If you're able, I hope you'll join me in making a donation to help The Cove reach more children and families. Your support will go directly towards programs and initiatives like Camp Compassion and family support programs.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about The Cove (or have interest in getting involved!).

More info about The Cove

At the Cove Center for Grieving Children, our mission is to provide hope and healing for grieving children/teens and their families, and training for the professionals who work with them. The Cove provides family and school-based programs utilizing the peer support group concept for helping children, teens and families work with their unresolved grief due to the death of someone significant in their lives.

The Cove Center for Grieving Children, a volunteer-driven program developed by the New England Center for Loss and Transition, was started in Guilford, Connecticut, in 1995 by Jim and his second wife, Mary Ann, and therapist Renée McIntyre. After an exhaustive study of the best national models available, this youth focused program was designed to help children and teens deal with grief. The Cove was separately incorporated as a 501 (c)(3) organization in 1998.

Beginning with six families in the first year, the program developed a solid working model that has steadily grown. Today, there are seven Cove sites throughout the state serving hundreds of grieving children and family members through regular support sessions. The Cove also offers an outreach program that touches an additional 1,200 individuals in the State of Connecticut each year through community education, professional training, consultation and referral.
