Support the Briarpatch Community Garden to Bloom

The Briarpatch Community Garden needs your support to bloom!

Located on Princess and Cordova, the Briarpatch Community Garden is a space for Downtown Eastside residents to share, work, learn and grow together. This space is much more than a source of food security for the community gardeners – it’s a quiet space to escape the noise and chaos of the city, build a sense of community, and promote community health.

Just as many of us have experienced the hardships brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Briarpatch Community Garden has also experienced many challenges over the past year. Due to social distancing, gathering restrictions, and the current layout of the garden, numerous community members were unable to participate in last year’s growing season.

So, that brings us to this year! We’re hoping to do some much needed upgrades so each gardener can have their own plot to safely grow nutritious and delicious food right near their homes – but we need your help to do this.

If you are able, please consider donating to help us meet our fundraising goal of $5,000. Most of these funds will be used to purchase lumber, with any extra funds used to purchase supplies for the gardeners (compost, work gloves, mulch, fertilizer, etc.).

If you're thinking about how much to give... a donation of $100 is enough to set up a gardener with their very own plot! Help us hit our target of 44 plots.

If you’d prefer to donate lumber or supplies, please get in touch – we’d be happy to accept physical donations as well.

Community spaces like the Briarpatch Garden are so important for DTES residents, but unfortunately they are quickly disappearing. Help us keep this community green space thriving and blooming!

Your support is so appreciated.

With immense appreciation, we acknowledge that the Briarpatch Community garden is located on the traditional, unceded, and ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. The Briarpatch gardeners and neighbors are grateful to live, work, and garden on these beautiful lands.
