Urgent Help Needed: Facing Homelessness after Purchasing Uninhabitable Home and Property

Dear Friends, Family, and Kind-Hearted Supporters,

I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your help. My father and I recently purchased a property with a home on it, believing it would be ours and my family's perfect forever property— All while wanting to provide a safe environment for my children to live and grow up. We had envisions of raising our family on land with animals and all the room to roam for the kids and their friends. We even planned for the future beforehand, thinking there was more than enough room on the property to eventually add an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) for our growing family. Unfortunately, after closing, we learned that the seller, and the agents involved played a role in being deceptive and dishonest in the transaction of the sale. The home had many unseen issues that were never disclosed to us. We discovered that the home is not only unsafe but also uninhabitable. We are now facing the unimaginable: the threat of homelessness while still being stuck paying the mortgage on a house we cannot live in.

Our Story

We worked extremely hard for this home and property, and like so many people, we thought it was the right decision for our family. However, we quickly realized that the house is plagued with serious issues—like mold, structural damage, unsafe electrical, plumbing issues, and so much more—problems that were not disclosed to us when we purchased the home. Upon further research and a licensed lab testing company, we found that the home had a history of being used for illegal activities inside the home, which contributed to its current state of disrepair. We were quoted by a local contractor that it would cost anywhere from 40-50k to make this home a safe place to live for my family. The seller, their agent, and our agent all failed to disclose these critical issues, leaving us in a dire situation.

We’ve done everything we can to try to get the home into livable condition, but it’s clear that the costs of repairs and remediation are beyond our reach. Right now, my father and I are doing everything we can to find alternative housing, but with limited resources, we are at risk of losing the stability we worked so hard for. My two young children are also caught in the middle of this crisis, and it breaks our hearts to think of the uncertainty they’re facing-especially with the holidays approaching when this should be a magical time for them.

Why We Need Your Help

We are asking for your support to help us avoid homelessness and regain stability for our family. The funds raised will go directly toward securing temporary housing—whether that is a camper or a 5th wheel to put on the property to live in while we figure things out with the house, or any other affordable solution—while we continue paying the mortgage on the home we cannot live in. The funds will also help cover essential living expenses and costs related to the situation. Our immediate needs are as follows:

Temporary housing: We need help securing a safe place for our family to live, whether that is a camper, 5th wheel or something else until we can find a permanent solution.

Moving and storage costs: We will need funds to cover moving expenses, including the costs of storing our belongings until we have a safe place to stay.

Legal and repair costs: We are also looking into legal options to address the issues with the home and may need funds for consultations and/or repairs.
