We have had a faith based weekly outreach ministry with the kids and families of the Cloverleaf Apartments for 4 years now. The community is very dear to our hearts. Our mission from the beginning has been to take JESUS TO the hurting. Well, right now, they are hurting more than ever. On January 17th, they were told that HUD was shutting down the complex. About a week later, they were told they had till June 18th. The former management had stolen HUD funding and had never taken care of the property. Due to never paying the trash bills, mountains of trash had piled up increasing the issues of pests and rodents. Water mains underground broke back in January, and were gushing over the property non-stop for weeks - yes, during the below zero temps. Parts of the parking lot were under 6-10 inches of solid ice. No help came. Out of 17 buildings more than half were dealing with frozen pipes and significant flooding. This community has had black mold issues for years and the massive amounts of water they took on only increased the dangerous quality of air. Then they were told the gas was going to be shut off on March 7th. Yesterday, 2/26/25 HUD held two meetings for the residents to help them know what the next steps would be for their relocation. Everything seemed like help was on the way finally and the residents were encouraged. However, in the middle of the 2nd meeting, they were told the fire department was there, had assessed the hazardous conditions finally that they have been living in for months, and suddenly wanted ALL 76 families OFF of the property immediately. As in by that evening. This understandably created an uproar. The compromise to enable the residents to collect their belongings was to give them 48 hours to leave. Although HUD is supposed to be providing hotels and then moving vouchers, there is a GREAT DEAL of uncertainty and many of our residents have already lost everything in their homes due to flooding. We are asking for help for these families. Thank you for your heart to help. If you cannot donate financially, but instead have items, we ask that you reach out to Salt n Light Ministries KC.
GOD IS GOOD and DOES GOOD and HAS A PLAN for these families. THIS has been a VERY DIFFICULT TIME, but we do believe that HE WILL BE WITH THEM throughout this journey of change and that if they SEEK HIM, they will find HIM and the PEACE HE gives even amidst the storms in life.
