Support Our 2025 "In His Midst" Summer Park BBQ in the Hill

In a short 3 months we will begin our 11th annual “In His Midst” Park BBQ. This series of Wednesday evening meals in a nearby park is not in our church budget; we depend on people like you to help us make this happen. This year our goal is to raise $2,600. We need your support.

For the past 11 years (this summer being our 12th year), CPC in The Hill has hosted an evening meal for 8 Wednesdays during the summer in a nearby Hill park. We need your help in making this happen again this summer. Typically 85 to 100 folks show up for the meal each Wednesday and 35-45 and sometimes even 50 of them show up for my Park Preaching before the meal. Additionally, at the end of the summer on the last Wednesday we hand out a backpack of School Supplies to all the kids K-8 (usually around 50 to 60 kids). In order to provide these meals and kids school supplies, add all the equipment and supplies needed, we will need $2,600 to make this happen. We cannot do this without your help.

For 8 Wednesday evenings Christ Presbyterian Church in The Hill rolls out a grill and cooks hot dogs and prepares a meal for those who gather in Trowbridge Square Park in the Hill Community of New Haven, CT. The good people of CPC in The Hill bring hot dogs, fruits, salads, and cookies. We offer a small feast to whomsoever happens to be in the park that evening. And for some, it will be their only meal for the day.

 

We cannot do this without your help!

 

No matter the weather [we have done this is pouring rain many times!], each Wednesday evening, I will preach (my Park Sermon), then pray and CPC in The Hill will serve, and we will love on our Hill neighbors this summer––and we are counting on you to help make this happen.

 

Hill folks come to the Park, many just to spend time with their kids, single moms giving their children some end-of-the-day energy release, neighbors hanging out, plenty of (what I call) un-parented teens wandering about, and the homeless, the addicted, and even some gang members––they are all invited to join us for a short message–and they do come to hear the Word, even though they know they'd still be able to eat if they wait for 10 minutes then come and get in line. Yet, they are actually eager to listen to the Word.

 

We expect on average 85 people each evening. Sometimes even 100+ will be there.

 

These eight (8) evenings are our church’s signature ministry. Yet, we need some help to cover the costs for this ministry. It is outside our regular church budget. So, we must fundraise specifically for the summer Park BBQ ministry. We need weekly supplies besides the food and the hot dogs (and some other basic items). We will also need some outreach items and, of course, school supplies (which we will give away on the last Wednesday evening).

 

The park ministry costs about $325 a week (that’s $3.82 a meal). Add supplies et al., and we will need $2,600 for FY25’s Summer Park BBQ ministry.
