The FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC) is a robotics program that empowers students in Grades 9 to 12 to collaborate with volunteer mentors and coaches, as well as, some of the world’s leading technology companies. Together, they design, build, and program robots from the ground up to compete in high-intensity, robo-sports challenges. Operating under strict rules, tight deadlines, and limited resources, students design a team “brand”, develop their technical and teamwork skills, and ultimately bring their robots to life to perform prescribed tasks in exciting competitions. The program blends the thrill of sports with the rigor of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), equipping students with the skills they will need to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
In Fall 2024, the small (3 members) but mighty Team 10218 – No Signal, based in Rockwood, Ontario, began our rookie season with FIRST® Robotics Canada. We started our journey by learning programming and robotics fundamentals using the Sparkfun Experiential Robotics Platform (XRP) Kit. Our team applied these skills to program and operate our robot—both autonomously and through driver control—forming the foundation of our competition experience.
From January to mid-March 2025, we focused on designing, building, programming, refining, and training in preparation for competition season. As a Rookie Team, we received support and guidance from FIRST® Robotics Canada and WWFIRST (Waterloo Wellington FIRST), as well as, funding from the Argosy Grant Foundation.
From March 20–22, 2025, we proudly participated in our first-ever competition at the Ontario District University of Waterloo Event. Out of 30 competing teams, Team 10218 – No Signal ranked an impressive 10th place during qualification rounds. We were honoured to advance to the Playoffs as the Captain of Alliance #6, alongside Team 7475 – WIRED 7475 and Team 6162 – Cap Alpaca 6162, making it to Round 3 of 5.
Our second and final event of the season will take place at the Ontario District McMaster University Event, from March 28–30, 2025.
How Will the Funds Be Used?
We’re reaching out for your support to help us:
1. Qualify for and attend the 2025 FIRST® Ontario Provincial Championship ($5,500 CAD in 2024-25).
2. Cover expenses for the next 3 seasons, including the FIRST® Robotics Competition team registration fee (estimated at $8,800 CAD based on 2024–25), essential robotics components and tools, and the Ontario Provincial Championship entry fee (estimated at $5,500 CAD based on 2024–25).
How You Can Help?
Whether through a donation or by simply sharing our story, your support makes a difference. Every contribution—big or small—helps us continue learning, building, and competing. You’re not just supporting a team; you’re investing in the future of youth in STEM.
With heartfelt thanks,
Team 10218 – No Signal
