Nestled in between apartment buildings, Tapasoli Community Garden is a haven for life and learning. Located in the middle of San Luis Potosí, Tapasoli is a 100% volunteer-run community garden that aims to become an environmental education hub to bring about lasting and regenerative change in the community. We believe that the best way to ensure this change is through early childhood education.
Our Goal
We are seeking supporters to help us purchase the Milpazul Huerto Autónomo teaching kit, a Montessori-inspired ecopedagogy set developed by educator Fabienne Malika and her team at Huertos Milpazul. This set includes materials and a manual to teach children aged 3 to 9 how to correctly grow and care for a vegetable garden.
This beautifully designed and crafted methodology is:
- Attractive, functional, systematized, and replicable
- Designed to guide future generations with love, consciousness, sensitivity, and gratitude for our planet
We aim to raise $52,000 MXN (~$2,500 USD) to purchase the full Milpazul teaching kit, which includes:
- Teaching manuals
- 26 activity boards
- Work areas: kitchen, nursery, composting, tools, and cleaning
As stated on the Huertos Milpazul website:
"Children learn through the use of tools and materials that promote autonomy and learning in the vegetable garden. This respects the children's freedom of choice, which ensures lasting motivation to continue learning, contributing to the development of their self-esteem."
Why This Matters
Two Tapasoli community members recently completed a 3-day certification course by Huertos Milpazul to teach this method. With your help, purchasing the full toolkit will allow us to:
- Offer after-school, weekend, and summer camp environmental education programs
- Create employment opportunities for teachers
- Raise environmental awareness among children and their families
- Provide a sustainable income stream for Tapasoli Community Garden to improve infrastructure and programs
We strongly believe that, with your help, we can bring about the much-needed change for our community, city, state, country, and world.
Thank you for your time and support!
Sincerely,
Carlos, Thalía, Raúl, Nallely, Cruz, Brenda, Ricardo, Ernesto, Liliana, Euri, Lua, Rahui, Natalia, Said, and all the volunteers from Comunidad Tapasoli
