Help Swamp Dog Hobble Feed NYC

Hello! We're Swamp Dog Hobble, an intentional community household in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Every week for the past year and a half, we've cooked an awesome stew that's fed thousands of people through Tompkins Distro’s mutual aid distribution. Our story starts back in January 2024, when our house answered a call for aid from Tompkins Distro to distribute food for the newest New Yorkers—unhoused migrants bussed here from the south. We quickly mobilized, crafting and eventually perfecting a dignified, calorie-rich stew that many have reported as one of the best meals of their week. Here we are, over a year and a whole generation of a house later, continuing this legacy of feeding and caring for our neighbors.

What does our average distro week look like?

Tuesday: shop for ingredients

Wednesday: blend the salsa verde

Thursday: marinate chicken, soak beans, chop and prep veggies

Friday: cook the stew!

Saturday: our stew gets picked up by the distro team and distributed at Tompkins Square Park

We need your help!

We've reduced the cost of our stew to $125/week.

Community partners occasionally provide us with small gift cards, but overall, we've contributed our own labor, time, resources, and money to this project. Through house shows and tag sales, our fundraising generously carried us through the fall and early winter. Now we're a bit behind and are looking to regain momentum as we head into the rest of the year.

$25 - makes about 30 portions of our stew for 30 hungry mouths

$75 - covers our veggies and chicken cost for a week
