Support Sustainable Organic Farming in Nyathuongweno, Kenya

Donation protected
Nyathuongweno community farming project is a grass roots project in Homa-Bay, Kenya that uses organic methods and permaculture systems to share food and food growing skills in the local community.

It is run by local designer Joseph Awino who teaches sustainable Agriculture in Africa so no one misses their plate of food in his community. The project has helped widows and widowers and orphans who can't afford to buy food and clothes. Joseph has always seen his community struggle to have enough food. As he grew older, he kept looking for a solution to solve the food problem and eventually he made the decision to create a small garden to grow some of his own food. After completing his permaculture training in Uganda, he returned to his community in Nyathuongweno village to teach permaculture design techniques and work through agriculture.

The main goal of this project is to provide a space for people to work and prosper together. The community is dedicated to growing and sharing it's own food. They buy seeds with the neighbouring communities of 10 villages and also share ideas and teach others the skills to do sustainable agriculture.

Food is shared with those who cannot afford it. We hold ourselves to a high standard, therefore we set a good example for our community.

The main purpose of this project is to provide a space for people to work, learn and engage through sustainable organic farming. Using permaculture skills and methods individuals and families are free to learn, teach each other and experiment in a variety of sustainable and self-sufficient life skills. Focused on organic farming methods, the community provides a healthier and earth-friendly alternative lifestyle for local people. We adhere to a positive work ethic that recognize the value of our neighbours and our community at large.

We are requesting to buy some new farm working tools and equipment because we are now starting our farm garden practices. In looking to expand and grow, the project needs tools and equipment to help members to work in the farm site.

Our project has become skilled in utilising our growing space but we lack essential equipment. We are requesting support to allow our project to continue and meet the needs of the people eager to learn.

Here is our working tools equipment breakdown budget. We need to buy:

2x wheelbarrow at a cost of $200 USD

5x watering cans at a cost of $50 USD

A selection of garden hand tools like spades, hoes and trowels at a cost of $200 USD

20x gloves at a cost of $100 USD

10x gumboots at a cost of $150 USD

Building materials such as bricks, brackets and hand tools at a cost of $1000 USD

The transportation from our community to the hardware shop where we will be buying those will cost $200 USD

Funds to purchase some seeds sachets for our community farmers and cover day to day. All additional funds are used to cover running costs and farm development as required. And we need $3000 USD for buying 1000ft of timbers for building our visitors volunteer guest house together with our Nyathuongweno community permaculture store house/ work shop.

THE TOTAL AMOUNT THAT WE NEED IS = $ 6000 USD

Thank you everyone for your consideration, your generous support, and for sharing our community project activities.
