Update 3/21 - I'm putting my all into making this happen. Today I am going to put down what is called earnest money to move forward with purchasing the land. I need about $10,000 more than I currently have to put the land in my name. I'm working so hard and I could really use your help.

Do you dream of getting your hands in the dirt, connecting with the land, and growing your own food? Do you want to learn how to grow and make traditional medicines with hands-on experience, the way this tradition has always been passed on?

I am asking for your support to make possible my dream that I hold for us, for the community. I have a vision of a small plot of land, a quarter acre here in West Sedona that will be home for my son, Jai, and myself while we build biodynamic gardens and grow food and medicine for, with, and alongside the community. The land has presented itself and it has been fallow for over twenty years. The owners want to sell it to me and we are in negotiations.

When I stand before this land, I am asked to build a relationship of sacred reciprocity where I steward the land and in turn, the land will provide what it does. I see a tiny house with a porch to sit and sip herbal infusions with a big old farm sink to wash harvested veggies and herbs. I see a big yurt for gathering, programming, retreats and classes on soil cultivation, biodynamics and Rudolph Steiner’s work, garden planning and prep, seed saving, planting, harvesting, and of course, medicine making.

The dream tells me I will be teaching droves of women, men, and children how to grow food for themselves in small spaces. The vision is to support the community in working together to inspire food sovereignty in our own backyards, be it on a quarter acre, in containers, or to begin on windowsills. The movement is to provide the information needed to reweave these simple ways of being and living so we can live in harmony with the earth and each other as well as in great health with fresh, nutritious food year-round.

We will gather to talk about how to work with the land because it wants to provide for us. Gardening, beekeeping, medicine making, gathering in circles like our ancestors did, a traditional sweat lodge. I come from the East Coast where I had a gardening company, growing organic food and herbs for folks and making medicine from wild and cultivated plants. Over the past several years, I have come to know Sedona’s hot sun and dry heat and the adjustments required to successfully grow here.

On the island in the Atlantic where I used to live, I tended bees for many families and I look forward to teaching the community here about the ways of the honeybee. Back East, I had an apprenticeship program where we went on plant walks and sat in circles on my front porch to talk about medicine preparations and healing the body with Mother Earth’s gifts. I look forward to doing the same here and this land wants to provide this space for us.

For me to share this wisdom with you all brings such freedom to all of us. To actualize this dream in real time, I need your help in raising funds to purchase the land and build the small structures. Your financial support puts me in the position to offer all of this and more to the community with real roots.
