Ya'at'eeh, My name is Siihasin and I am fundraising on behalf of Soula, who is a mother with her three children that have been targeted by those who align themselves with the MAGA shooter Ryan Martinez. Soula with her three children are in the initial video calling for an occupation and prayer vigil, days before the reinstallation of the Colonizer Juan de Oñate statue. Last week, days after the shooting her home was broken into & vandalized in retaliation. It is their 1st amendment right to peacefully assemble and make their voices heard as members of the local Española community. We believe they broke into her local home to incite fear and to potentially harm her and her children.
There was over $15,000 in property damages of broken sacred items, pottery, electronics, furniture, paintings, clothes, of her vehicle and kids belongings that were slashed and destroyed. These unknown perpetrators seek to intimidate and scare survivors of the gun violence into silence, as this happened during the preliminary pretrial process and court hearings of the shooter that was taking place at the end of the week. This perpetration of violence is the same spirit of Colonizer Juan de Oñate statue. This statue celebrates the violence upon 800+ Pueblo peoples, atrocities that even the colonial Spanish crown would not claim due to the violences against Pueblo Peoples. Acoma Pueblo warriors had their left feet cut off to instill fear while their families were torn apart. It is in the same spirit these supporters of Ryan Martinez seek to harm community members who are speaking out against the reinstallation of the statue.
I have been given consent by those directly impacted by this hate crime to advocate and share this gofundme on her behalf during these moments of trauma and violence against her family. As any mother would, she fears for her children’s safety. They have been moved to a safe location outside of the community for the duration of the court proceedings.
Please send your love and support to this Mother and family who spoke up for Native peoples in the community that have been impacted by celebrations of genocide and conquest. This violation of her home and safe space is violence. No family deserves to feel unsafe in their homes for exercising their right to make their voices heard.
