Support Sunset Memorial's Revival Efforts

Tax deductible
On Behalf of the 6,000 family members who are buried or interred at the Sunset Memorial Cemetery, we are reaching out to everyone in the community most humbly asking for your donation. Your donation will help our nonprofit recover and revitalize Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Pearl City Hawaii for the many families who have their loved ones buried or interred at the cemetery.

The previous owner passed away, and for the past 12 years the cemetery was neglected and only maintained periodically by volunteers, especially our Vietnam Vets, Church groups, Lions Club and military personnel. During that 12-year period, unsheltered and transient individuals moved into the cemetery. The cemetery was vandalized. The first major negative impact was that trespassers broke into the owner's office and then burned down the building that contained all the burial information for those buried and interned in the cemetery. Transient individuals have broken into crypts in the mausoleums and stole personal items off bodies. They have also removed headstones and used them for flooring for their encampments.

In July 2023, House Bill 2192 ACT 193 was passed and signed by the Governor to allow a nonprofit to have limited ownership of the cemetery with mission to revitalize an abandoned cemetery. The Friends for Sunset Memorial Cemetery nonprofit has a three-year plan to revitalize the cemetery and bring it up to high standards to include the integration of Solar Photovoltaic capability to provide power to the nearby substation and into the Hale Mohalu senior facility.

Your donation could help us achieve the following:

Securing the cemetery with wrought iron fencing by placing a new face on the cemetery on 3rd Street and Kamehameha Hwy.
Estimated cost is $25,000.

Installing an irrigation system to allow for watering of the cemetery. Estimated cost: $2500

Installing remote security cameras and motion detectors to monitor the cemetery and trespass potential vandals. Estimate cost: $2500
