I’m creating this fundraiser on behalf of my beautiful friend, Summer, and her family. On December 7th, Summer’s husband was taken into ICE custody, leaving her responsible for their household and the care of their four young children, along with all immediate expenses. Although her husband has held a green card with permanent residency for about 20 years, he will now be deported. Summer is scrambling to figure out all that needs to be done while trying to shield the children from the trauma of what is happening. She is an incredibly hardworking and devoted mother who has always done everything possible to provide for her family. This sudden situation has placed an overwhelming emotional and financial burden on her. Legal fees alone are more than she can manage, and now she is having to uproot and move on top of childcare, household bills, transportation, daily living expenses, and trying to step into her husband’s world and the hard work he does to run a business in this struggling economy. The weight of trying to stay strong for her children while facing so much uncertainty has been extremely stressful. Anyone who knows Summer knows just how incredible she is—always going out of her way, generous to a fault, and looking out for everyone else. The funds raised will go directly toward legal fees, international moving costs, and daily living expenses now that Summer holds full responsibility for providing for the family.
