It’s with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our friend and devoted father, Adam Hassan Ahmed Haroun, on May 21, 2025. On his return trip home from Oregon, Adam, a commercial truck driver, was in a tragic accident. He was 47 years old.
Adam leaves behind his wife, Sumaya Adam, and their four children: Mohamed Haroun, 17; Hassan Haroun, 11; Mohossin Haroun, 8; and Nuor Haroun, 3. Adam’s children were the loves of his life. He found great joy in being their dad.
Sumaya is an incredible mom and very well-known in the refugee community for her big heart for helping others. Since coming to the US, she has used her language talents to help countless other refugee women adjust to life here as a translator and a former Community Advisor at the refugee center. Sumaya currently works at Papa Bear Cub Care Learning Center. Little Nuor goes there too, so she and mom get to spend the day together. Hassan and Mohossin attends Oregon Trail Elementary. Mohamed will be a junior at Twin Falls High School in Fall 2025.
Adam, Sumaya and Mohamed arrived in Twin Falls in March 2014 as refugees originally from Darfur, a region in western Sudan. They fled a government sponsored campaign of ethnic cleansing targeting their ethnic community. The violence in Sudan continues to this day, making daily life unsafe for Darfuri people. Both Adam and Sumaya's family members have been personally devastated by the fighting.
How You Can Help - Housing Support
Sumaya and the children need our help. The family has been through unimaginable hardship and as Adam was the primary provider for the family, Sumaya and her kids will need extra help in the immediate future with housing expenses. Our goal is to help them cover the rental costs of their home for the next 6 months. We invite all those touched by the family’s story to honor Adam’s memory by giving to this fund to ensure his children have stable housing as they deal with the loss of their father.
All gifts are much, much appreciated and will help the family greatly as they chart a new path forward.
