Stony Brook's Mission to Guatemala
Donation protected
Hi! We are students in the Occupational Therapy program at Stony Brook University, and this January, we’ve been given the incredible opportunity to travel to Guatemala for a service-learning mission trip in collaboration with Hearts In Motion (H.I.M.), a nonprofit organization committed to supporting underserved communities in Central America.
As future occupational therapists, we’ll be working with Guatemalan children and adults who face a variety of physical, developmental, and cognitive challenges. Our team will help implement therapy programs, assist in medical clinics, distribute adaptive equipment, and provide education and support to individuals, families, and caregivers.
This trip is more than just a learning experience—it’s a chance to use our developing skills to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others, while deepening our understanding of global health, cultural humility, and inclusive care.
To make this trip possible, we’re fundraising to help cover travel and program costs for our group. Your donation will help not just one of us—but our entire class—bring occupational therapy support to a community that deeply needs it.
We are so grateful for your support—whether it’s through a donation, a share, or words of encouragement. Thank you for helping us grow as compassionate professionals and for believing in the impact we can make together.
With gratitude,
Stony Brook OT Class of 2026
