My name is Carolina DeMatos, and I am raising funds to help my beautiful, loving friend Sarah Hurley and her family pay for the medical bills of her father, Steve, who has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 Colorectal cancer metastasized to his liver.

If you have a chance to get to know the Urban family, you will be lucky to be surrounded by love. Unfortunately, life hasn’t always been easy for them. Steve’s wife, Pat battled breast cancer in the early 2000s and is proud to be a breast cancer survivor. Steve has always been her biggest supporter and still to this day goes alongside her to annual breast cancer fundraisers. We will now support him through his battle and help him come out strong on the other side.

Steve/Pop’s doctor sent him to the ER on June 13 thinking he had gallstones, but unfortunately, it was cancer instead. Steve had emergency surgery to remove a large mass obstructing his intestine and will begin chemotherapy as the cancer has spread to his liver and lymph nodes.

Steve is lucky to be receiving the best care and an aggressive treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering, but given that the hospital is out of network, it also comes with a tremendous financial burden to the family. There will be significant costs associated with commuting regularly, parking, medicine, and medical bills.

Steve has been a dedicated Journeyman Pipefitter out of Local 274 for close to 35 years. Steve has three daughters and four grandchildren: Liam, Calvin, Olivia and Miles. He is a die hard Packers and Celtics fan, and always supporting his grandchildren at their sporting events. He enjoys traveling and has dreams of returning to Hawaii one day with his entire family in tow.

We ask for contributions to provide some relief and support for Steve and his incredible family. A little can really help and come a long way in easing the financial burden for his family.
