Support Steve Freeman: Vietnam Vet in Need
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Russell Kempton. I see a lot of people asking for money around businesses on North 27th Street in Lincoln, NE, but this one hit me differently...This is Steve Freeman. I saw Steve while I was leaving Home Depot on July 9th...a veteran, sitting stoic, looking for money to help pay bills. He was sitting in a wheelchair in the median. I gave him the only 5 dollars I had on me and pulled away. But something made me turn back. I parked and walked out to him and we ended up speaking for 15 minutes.
Steve was in the army, explosives, during Vietnam and had brothers that served during that same time that didn't fare so well. Steve turns 80 in November and was looking to get a part-time job but his COPD won't allow him to walk more than half a block at a time. Another person that should be living out his days with honor and dignity but is hoping he can make it to the next week.
I've never done this before, but I told Steve that I would try to help in any way I can... I hope the good nature and patriotism of this country can come through, just a little bit, and help take some burden off of this man...
