Aloha. My name is Steve Coffee and I am raising funds to attend the Sixth Annual Death Doula Training Conference on Maui later this month. This conference is geared toward those who work with the dying and their families, including those with cognitive dysfunctions (dementia) associated with age and various diseases. The money I raise here will go toward conference tuition , travel between the big island and Maui and for meals while I am there. I’ll be camping at the venue to save money. I am semi retired and currently not generating income so the various fees for this conference are a bit daunting.
Seems I’m being called to this work more and more as time and resources allow. I work with friends and family, and with people/families I don’t know who need this support. I usually work with the hospice team assigned to the family, though I am not employed with hospice. Usually there’s little or no payment involved.
A lot has changed in this field since my RN training ten years ago with lots of new insight, tech and strategies for serving this special population. I’d like to be as up-to-date and effective in this field as possible. This training will provide me with important information, new skills and networking opportunities. Any funds remaining after the conference will support my work in the community when I return to the Big Island.
This is difficult and beautiful work. I love it, I’m good at it and I want to keep providing this sacred service in my community. Please consider supporting my attendance at this important conference. Thank you.
