Support Ste’s rehabilitation journey with Locked In Syndrome
Donation protected
We’re coming together to support Steven Melia during his rehabilitation journey. Ste is one of the kindest and most caring people we’ve ever known, always ready to lend a helping hand. We’re reaching out to you for your support to raise funds for a suitable rehabilitation chair and to assist Ste with his ongoing rehabilitation and communication needs.
Let me share a bit about Ste’s journey and the challenges he’s faced over the past nine months.
On November 2nd, 2024, Ste experienced a devastating brain bleed. Despite surgery, he was rushed to intensive care, where he suffered another bleed. Thankfully, the medical team managed to stop it. Since then, Ste has been undergoing rehabilitation therapy at the Walton Centre.
This difficult journey began in August 2024 when Ste was diagnosed with a chest infection, which progressed to double pneumonia and eventually led to an autoimmune disorder called vasculitis. Before this, Ste was a healthy 46-year-old.
Last week, Ste’s family learned that he has Locked-in Syndrome. This means Ste is fully aware of his surroundings and can communicate with his eyes, but he is paralysed and unable to speak. Ste has been married for just two years and longs to speak with his beautiful wife, family, and friends.
The funds we raise will help purchase a specialist rehabilitation chair, allowing Ste to sit with his loved ones and enjoy socialising, which he cherishes most.
Any help and support you can offer would be truly appreciated and could make a big difference in Ste’s life.
