Stephanie met Kevin at Northwood Chuch in 2016 and began dating. They were married in December of 2018.
He was retired from the US Navy in 2015, before they met. He was a Utilitiesman in the Seabees. He always had a great relationship with all of the children and stepped up to be their Dad.
Stephanie and three children moved in to Kevin's home and that is when she began to remodel the place for it to go on the market. The plan was so to sell his home and use the proceeds to purchase their “forever” home. Stephanie worked endlessly to transform that house, and her hard work paid off when it sold for well over market value. They were then able to purchase their forever home in 2021. This sounds like the dream, right?
On May 27th, 2024 Kevin committed suicide as he was facing felony charges for reasons the family chooses not to describe.
He did not have burial benefits, nor did he assign her as his SBP for his retirement and health insurance. His funeral services cost over $8000 alone. Stephanie still has yet to receive his last paycheck or any other benefits due to his death. He has vehicles that have liens on them, he left behind credit card debt, and now she is struggling to pay the mortgage and basic monthly bills.
During their marriage, Stephanie worked as a cosmetologist but had to cut back due to severe health issues. She's had back surgery and her kidneys are suffering from Minimal Change Disease. She was a mostly stay at home wife and mother and kept their home up and running. Kevin received retirement and VA compensation, on top of his regular job and provided most of the income for their family.
She has since learned that she is not entitled to any of the benefits because he never 'assigned' her. This will require a legal litigation process to get resolved.
The worst part?
Kevin was not close with any of his family, at least that’s a part he kept hidden from his wife. He never shared phone numbers for any of his relatives as he always said they were horrible people and hurt him his entire life.
She knows in her heart that her husband was sick and she knows he battled with PTSD -as he served several tours over seas in battle. However- that does not explain nor excuse the pain he has inflicted.
The same 'family' he claimed to have no relationships with, due to their abuse, have now started threatening Stephanie.
Those that know Stephanie known she is a hardworking woman who never asks for anything. She spent 5 years in the Marine Corps as a diesel mechanic. She was an E-5,sergeant. She's a cosmetologist, she is a Bread Baker, and she is one hell of a mama. This woman is as tough as they come and she has remained strong for her babies during all of this but she needs some help so that's why we are here.
She needs help retaining an attorney to navigate the financial mess she has been left. She also needs help maintaining the roof over their heads and handling personal matters while she tries to decipher through all of this.
Any donation, no matter how small, will make a difference. If you cannot donate, please share. Also consider booking Stephanie for a service or buying one of her delicious sour dough goods.
This family will not receive legal justice for the torture they have endured, but sharing this story will help their truth from being silenced.
