Support SOUL Kits for Appalachian Ohio
Donation protected
AmeriCorps LeaderCorps of Ohio is a dedicated group of service-minded individuals committed to improving communities across Ohio. As part of our ongoing mission, we are organizing a service project that will directly address the needs of underserved individuals in Appalachian Ohio.
This year’s project, Southern Ohio UpLift Kits (or SOUL Kits), focuses on supporting and uplifting individuals and families experiencing the effects of homelessness. These kits will aim to provide essential items and connections to resources that mitigate some of the impacts of homelessness and begin to bridge the gap to escaping poverty. The Appalachian region of Ohio, where our mission lies, has some of the highest poverty rates in the state. A study from the Appalachian Regional Commission states that the household poverty rate is 18.1 percent in our region, higher than the rates in non-Appalachian Ohio and around the U.S.
We seek community partnerships and support through monetary donations that will go towards the purchase of hygiene products, clothing, and other essential items that will enable us to create our SOUL Kits, benefit individuals and families experiencing homelessness, and hopefully create steps for lasting change in our community.
This project is managed by ServeOHIO LeaderCorps representatives from COMCorps and Rural Action's Appalachian Ohio Restore Corps.
