Support Sota Sushi Staff during closure

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Today we had our inspection with the insurance adjuster, and we were informed that the current estimated timeline to reopen is up to 6 months. We are deeply saddened by this news. Sota Sushi has been part of the Corona del Mar community for 13 years, and being away from our guests and our daily routine is heartbreaking.

Right now, our first priority is retaining our staff and making sure they can continue to be paid during this closure. Many of our team members have been with us for years, and they are the heart of Sota.

We are actively working with the City, a structural engineer, and our insurance team to move this process forward as quickly and safely as possible so we can reopen and serve the community again ASAP.

In the meantime, we are still here and doing everything we can to keep moving:
• We are available for catering
• We are working to secure a kitchen so we can offer to-go orders as soon as possible

We will continue to post updates as we learn more and as we make progress. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for every donation, message, and share. Your support is helping us take care of our team and work toward reopening as soon as we possibly can. ❤️

Hi everyone,
For the past 13 years, Sota Sushi has been proud to be part of the Corona del Mar community—celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, family dinners, date nights, and everyday moments with you.

Recently, a fire originated in the business next door, and while the fire did not start in our restaurant, Sota Sushi sustained secondary damage. We have to temporarily close while repairs are completed so we can reopen safely and welcome you back in a space that’s better than ever.

The most important thing: no one was hurt, and we are deeply grateful.

Right now, our hearts are with our team. Many of our staff have been with us for years—the familiar faces who take care of you and help make Sota feel like home. With an estimated closure of up to 8 weeks, our biggest concern is making sure our staff can continue to have an income while we’re unable to operate.

How your support helps
• Our biweekly payroll is approximately $48,000, and we are doing everything we can to support our team through this unexpected closure.
• Repair costs are still being assessed and may be $50,000–$100,000, and insurance may not cover every cost, deductible, or gap that comes with recovery.

How funds will be used (in order of priority)
1. Payroll support for our staff during the closure (highest priority)
2. Repairs and recovery costs that insurance may not fully cover
3. Reopening expenses to help us return to serving the community as soon as possible

We’ll share updates here as we move through inspections, cleanup, and repairs. If you can donate, we are incredibly grateful. If you can’t, sharing this page helps more than you know.

From the bottom of our hearts—thank you for supporting Sota Sushi and the people who make it special.
— The Sota Sushi Family

UPDATE: Thank you for the outpouring of support. Our priority is taking care of our staff during this closure. We’re currently working through cleanup, inspections, and repair planning after secondary damage from the neighboring fire. We’ll share the next update as soon as we have a clearer repair timeline.
