Join us on a journey into the heart of the Andes, where a timeless tradition is preserved and the echoes of ancestral knowledge resound in our hearts. We are the guardians of the Sacred Fire of Itzachilatlan in Colombia and we need your support to continue our sacred mission.
For decades, we have walked the legacy of our ancestors, sustaining a sacred space that receives people from all corners of Colombia and beyond. Here, seekers embark on a Vision Quest, fasting retreats lasting 4, 7, 9, or 13 days, to reconnect with the Great Spirit and pray for life.
Our mission is not driven by profit; it's a labor of love and devotion. We, as a family, come together to support those who ascend the mountain to embark on their Vision Quest. Our tasks encompass everything from adapting our facilities to preparing nourishing meals, camp maintenance, caring for our children, permanent care of the fire, among others.
During the time of vision quest, we are accompanied by indigenous elders, taitas/shamans, and elders who are bearers of ancestral traditions and medicines who come to share their knowledge. Our goal is to safeguard this ancient knowledge for the betterment of humanity, to guide us all towards a life of harmony and purpose.
The resources we've collected over the years, in addition to covering the expenses of the Vision Quest, have allowed us to secure a piece of land in Santa Sofía – Boyacá, Colombia, and construct essential facilities to accommodate those who seek to support or undergo their own Vision Quest.
Our existing facilities include an access road, a communal dining area, a kitchen, and a ceremonial house. Yet, as we continue this sacred work, we recognize the urgent need for improvements that will enhance the well-being and health of all who partake in this spiritual journey.
Here's where you come in:
1. Dining Room: Our dining room and kitchen, a space to prepare and share the meals, host meetings and celebrations during Vision Quest, is in dire need of a complete roof overhaul due to damage from heavy rains. A detailed repair study estimates this to cost $45,000,000 COP (approximately $11,200 USD).
2. Bathrooms: Our current sanitation facilities are in need of an eco-friendly upgrade to "compostable toilets" that blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings, offer ample lighting, and proper ventilation. The estimated cost for this transformation is $20,000,000 COP (about $5,000 USD).
3. Access Road: The private road leading to our camp, carved into challenging mountain terrain, has deteriorated over time due to heavy rains. We aim to reinforce this vital access route with "footprint plates," requiring materials like steel beams, cement, and stone. The estimated cost for this project is $30,000,000 COP (around $7,500 USD).
The total sum required for these essential repairs and enhancements is $95,000,000 COP, which is approximately $23,000 USD in conversion.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the souls willing to join our cause. With your support, we can continue welcoming brothers and sisters year after year, who attend the call of Spirit and Mother Earth to ascend the mountain and pray for their lives.
Together, we will preserve and share the wisdom of our ancestors for generations to come.
