My name is Velvet Waite Hines, also known as Queen, and I am the founder and president of Solo Nos Asociación Tribal Afro Progreso. Since 2012, my passion for philanthropy, business management, and Pan-Africanism has guided me to serve the Afro-Tribal communities in Limon province Costa Rica, especially in Talamanca.
Our organization operates "By the community, For the community," and is dedicated to defending & protecting Afro-Tribal rights and promoting & preserving culture.
All funds raised through this campaign will be transferred directly into dedicated local Costa Rica accounts for Asociación Tribal Afro Progreso Solo Nos.
Our initiatives include
We also want to expand our educational initiatives in for collaboration across organizations to stimulate the local economy!
I am a third-generation descendant of one of the founding families of Old Harbour (Wolaba/Puerto Viejo), of Talamanca, in Limón, Costa Rica. My mission is deeply rooted in the legacy of my family and the rich history of our community. My upbringing, education, and service in the United States military have shaped my commitment to making a positive difference for future generations.
The Association is expanding its reach, and to continue our work, we require funding for administrative & legal services, grant writers, and an operational headquarters.
Your support helps grow our initiatives, empower communities, and build a legacy of education, unity, and entrepreneurship.
I invite you to join us in this journey—together, we can make a lasting impact and honor the teachings of our ancestors, because as Marcus Garvey taught us: “A people without knowledge of its history is like a tree without roots”
