We are Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc., a network of Hermanas bound by service, leadership, and cultural awareness. Together, we believe that hermandad, sisterhood, isn’t just a word; it’s an action.
This initiative, SLU Serves, was born from that belief. With the recent reductions in SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits across the United States, thousands of New York City families are struggling to put food on the table. The rising cost of groceries has left many parents having to choose between rent, childcare, and meals - a choice no family should ever face.
As women committed to uplifting our communities, we knew we could not stand by. Our goal is simple yet powerful:
to provide grocery stipends, food support, and pantry donations for families in need - starting right here in the Bronx.
Food insecurity in NYC affects over 1 in 5 households with children.
Many of those families are Black, Latinx, and immigrant communities. The same communities that shaped and support us.
While city pantries are doing incredible work, they can’t keep up with the growing demand after federal benefit cuts.
We believe that true service starts at home.
By rallying our Hermanas, alumni, friends, and supporters, we can turn our sisterhood into direct action by ensuring families receive the dignity of a warm meal, a stocked fridge, and a little bit of relief.
Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward:
Grocery stipends for families.
Food donations and supply drive in the Bronx.
$25 covers a single “pantry bag” of essentials for a family - canned goods, rice, beans.
$50 funds a grocery gift card for a family.
$100 supports multiple families
Together, we can transform compassion into impact.
