Support Shannon Wells: A Beacon of Hope

I want everyone to meet Shannon Wells. He has been a blessing to many people and has become an inspiration to recovering addicts in the southwest Arkansas region. After 35 years of struggling with addiction himself, he turned his life around and for the last 2.5+ years has dedicated his life to helping others who struggle with addiction. He puts God, Recovery, and Family at the top of his priority list. He attends and chairs meetings, cooks at events, and sponsors others who are battling addiction. His mother, Nancy, has been a proud supporter and attends meetings and even volunteers at times to take in some of the recovering addicts who need a temporary place to stay, despite not always having the room or financial means to do so.

Over the last 6 months, Shannon has been battling with medical issues while trying to help his daughter with her medical problems as well. Although he doesn't believe he deserves support from others, many people would disagree. He has inspired and continues to inspire them to get clean and sober and remain that way. Because his job is hard labor work, his medical issues have limited his abilities, and now he is facing an upcoming surgery that may put him down for a couple of months. The local community is working to do a benefit for him, but the area he resides in and the people he continues to help have limited resources.

Over the last few months, I have had the honor of attending the meetings with him and helping him with the events he supports. I have listened to the way people react when they hear 'Recovering Addict,' and some people automatically turn away from supporting the cause. But I hope people will reconsider when reading this and know they are truly helping someone who has held himself accountable for his past and has admitted he was once a cancer to society. Shannon continues to dedicate himself to God, his Recovery, and helping others who struggle.
