Hello Friends, Family & Supporters
My name is Gavin and I created this fundraiser for My Mom.
A NURSE, A MOM AND CAREGIVER
My Mom Shandria Riser, has been a nurse for 14 years. Nursing has been more than a career for her — it has been how she provided for Our Family our Home and her 91-year-old grandmother, who raised her and now depends on her.
In March of 2024 My Mom was convicted of legal charges due to a family altercation that occurred in December of 2022. She takes full responsibility for her actions and the role she played in the dispute. Due to processing delays, she was never contacted or questioned in regards to the incident, instead she found out 2 years later during a traffic stop while on the way to work.
It has been almost a year since the conviction and my Mom continues to adhere to the probationary requirements in our state and complete the necessary rehabilitation. However, the timeline and circumstances surrounding this violation has caused her life and livelihood to be severely impacted. The State of Michigan has an automatic mandate for certain criminal misdemeanor convictions that impedes Nursing licensees from working with the elderly, adults with diminished mental capacity or children for a minimum for 5 years.
My Mom is of good moral character and one of the most giving, caring and compassionate people I know so it was unbelievable when she lost the ability to practice in her nursing career for the next 5 years in the State of Michigan. My mom has a host of friends and coworkers even supervisors who can provide a reference to her character and conduct on a personal and professional level. She is the kind of person that would give the shirt off her back for anyone in need. So watching her go through this despair was one of the most heart wrenching things I’ve ever experienced. I’ve never seen her experience such grief and I often was concerned about her overall well being.
Devoting herself to 14 years in healthcare and losing her career so abruptly caused so many hardships for our family. It was of course devastating to her and unbearably heartbreaking for me as her only child having no ability to save her from it all. As the months went on My Mom tried diligently to find work, constantly sending emails and resumes and considering alternate forms of employment but doors continued NOT to open for her.
Once unemployment benefits were exhausted she fell behind on payments and her vehicle was repossessed. As the months went on more debts accumulated even including falling behind on mortgage payments. My Mom is strong, and I watched as she continued to do whatever was in her power to move herself forward in life even reaching out to seek assistance for her situation and when the misfortune became too much and there was no other solution left she made the painful but responsible decision to sell our family home to avoid foreclosure…
Even after selling our family home which she thought would be the perfect way to climb out of debt there were so many accumulated debts that my Mom still does not have enough financial stability to secure housing, transportation, and living expenses and Despite everything she continued work to create a path forward. By doing so, she considered the possibility of working in another state. So she continued to persevere, obtaining a permanent nursing license in another state where she planned to relocate for a fresh start and employment opportunities. However, limited funds from the home sale and a lowered credit score have made the idea to relocate almost financially impossible without assistance. As a Mom and Primary supporter for our family I have seen her doing everything in her power to rebuild her life and stability again and as her Only Son this is my way of helping my mother reclaim her independence and continue her move forward.
Please assist me in helping my Mom bridge the gap in her finances to relocate, secure viable employment and rebuild herself as she is our family’s foundation.
Thanks is advance for your Support!
