Support Shadow's Cancer Treatment
Donation protected
Hi! My name is EB and this is my guy Shadow. Shadow is a 9 yr old Black lab, and my mobility service animal trained through Canine Partners of the Rockies. We've been together for six years and our journey has been an absolute success story as he makes my quite difficult life better in every possible way.
Just a few weeks ago, Shadow became very sick and after visiting five different veterinarians and a slew of very expensive diagnostic tests, he was diagnosed with a rare form of bladder cancer called transitional cell carcinoma, TCC for short. It is an incurable canine disease, but treatable, with a 5 year survival rate of 70% when treated early and because we've caught it early, he has an excellent chance at survival. His treatments comprise an IV chemotherapy cocktail given every two weeks, costing $700/session, for a minimum 6 mo. up to a year.
With no pet insurance, all of Shadow's treatments are out of pocket and being a fully disabled woman, my ability to pay for these treatments are greatly diminished. Without these treatments, Shadow will surely decline, and quickly. I currently work 2 part-time jobs to cover my own medical expenses and I am planning to pick up another part-time job to help pay for Shadow's medical expenses but it will not cover everything. And so I am reaching out to my community near and far that know and love Shadow, have heard of Shadow or have a generous heart to help someone in need. Every little bit helps, and 100% of every donation will go directly into his care and treatment.
Our story-
I was seriously injured with a high-level spinal cord injury in August 2014 at the age of 36 from a freak swimming pool accident leaving me paralyzed from the shoulders down for the remainder of my life. Since my accident, I have accomplished many things such as navigating working again, living independently in a power wheelchair and even becoming an adapted scuba diver. But something was dramatically missing in my life as I live alone, and need help with everything. Enter my life… Mr. Shadow (as I like to call him).
As a service dog, Shadow helps me with everything. He can move things out of my way, open/close doors, get me in/out of buildings and elevators, put my arms and legs back on my wheelchair when flopped over, provides tremendous emotional support, opens cabinetry, refrigerators and encourages my independence by getting me out into the community for outdoor time/walks and social events.
Aside from his service dog activities, it's his emotional intelligence that has had the greatest impact on me. His laid-back, mellow personality has taught me to slow down, take breaks and have less anxiety as I traverse a difficult life as a quadriplegic. He cries when I cry, lays his head in my lap when I am fearful, and gazes at me with soulful eyes helping any earthly trouble slip away in just an instant. There is no doubt, my quality of life would certainly decline without him.
Thank you so much from the bottom of both of our hearts for taking the time to listen to our story and if you have the means helping me with Shadow's cancer support. Every little bit helps, so truly… Thank you.
