My name is Melissa McDowell, and I’m the sister of Seth Broock. Seth’s wife, Rikkie’s childhood friend, Jess, unexpectedly passed away in a car accident a few weeks ago, leaving behind 2 kids. Zariyah will be 6 in October and Kaiser will be 5 next January. Their past unfortunately wasn’t the easiest.

When Seth and Rikkie picked them up the morning after, they came with very few belongings. As most of you know, Seth and Rikkie didn’t have any kids. Within 24 hours, they became parents and could use anything to help them start this new family of theirs.

As hard as this has been, it’s been so beautiful to watch these kids adapt and get excited to call them mom and dad.

With all of this happening so fast, it means a lot of clothes shopping, beds, bedding, and bedroom furniture. Basically, they came to them with nothing.

Seth and Rikkie do have custody and legal guardianship as of now. They are in the adoption process, which will lead to fees for their home study at the end of the month. I know anything that is given will be looked at as a huge blessing for their new family. It has been truly humbling in the short amount of time that they’ve had them to have so many reach out wanting to help, so we all wanted to say from the bottom of our hearts, thank you!
