On June 10, our Serena Palacios-- activist, danzante, mother -- was among 1,000 protesters who participated in the emergency ICE Out protest at the Colorado State Capitol.

Serena was arrested and charged with felony assault on police officer. She was released on bond, but has received online harassment from strangers.

We are raising money to offset her legal fees and to allow her to provide mutual aid to fellow protesters.

Serena took action to express resistance to the unlawful actions of the Trump presidency and the sweeping human rights violations to thousands of individuals who are being deported or illegally detained.

“This is more than a protest. It’s a call to defend our future,” Raquel Lane-Arellano, communications manager for the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition, said in a press release. “The Trump administration is trying to turn our government into a weapon—unleashing the military on immigrants, workers, and anyone who won’t bow to their agenda.”

Please join me in not only supporting Serena, but in an act of community solidarity as we, as a community continue to speak out against the unlawful actions of the Trump administration. It will take all of us working together to change the momentum.

It's also imperative to protect Serena's safety and wellbeing which like so many others is in jeopardy because she dared to speak out, to deliberately disobey, and to stand up for the rights of others. Keeping Serena out of jail is the most important step we can take right now to protect her from harm and additional retaliation by the state.
