Love for Serena

Donation protected
*NOTE: Jessica prefers that Serena not be informed of her condition until she feels it’s necessary. We ask that you respect their privacy during this time. She fully deserves to enjoy her time as a kid, free from the fear/burden of cancer and especially knowing that her condition is terminal. Children may not fully grasp the severity of the situation and could unintentionally share this information with Serena. We kindly ask that you refrain from discussing this with your child(ren). Thank you so much.

Serena Luna Hinshaw, affectionately known as Nana, is a bright, cute, beautiful, and brave 7-year-old who has fought courageously against Stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma.

Nana was diagnosed right after her 3rd birthday in November of 2020 during the covid pandemic. She spent more than half her life in the hospital fighting cancer. She endured multiple surgeries, tumor removal, rounds of chemotherapy, stem cell harvest from her own body, bone marrow transplants, immunotherapy in combination with chemotherapies, and 2 additional years of an experimental drug trial. She had her adrenal gland removed at 3 years old, suffered from permanent hearing loss, several years of hair loss, painful bilateral bone marrow aspirations every other month, amongst so much more. After fighting it for so long, she was finally declared cancer-free in January 2023 while continuing her treatments.

Since then, Nana has unapologetically lived her life and did all the things she dreamt of doing while in the hospital. She finally got to go to school and completed Kindergarten. She is now a first grader at Manoa Elementary. She just celebrated her 7th birthday at Ice Palace with all her friends where she ice skated for the first time. And she is making the most of her free time, filling it with Japanese school, dance classes, gymnastics, beach days, and spending time with her favorite people (you know who you are).

However, we recently received the devastating news that the cancer came back and she has relapsed, she is terminal with a 0% chance of survival. Unfortunately, there is no cure for relapsed Stage 4 Neuroblastoma.

The Goal:
We want to make every moment count for Nana and her loved ones. Our goal is to provide comfort, joy, and support during this time. The funds raised will go towards fulfilling her wishes, making memories, and easing the burden on Jessica, her mother, as they navigate this difficult journey.

Funds will be used for:
- Medical expenses not covered by insurance
- Special trips or experiences Nana dreams of
- Comfort items and home care support
- Relieving financial strain so her mother can focus on being with her

For those of you who don't know me, I am Nana’s godfather, but to her, I’m her Unko Seiya—her unofficial favorite uncle. I live with Jessica and Nana and have had the honor of watching Nana grow up, and I’m reaching out on behalf of her and her mother to ask for your support during this time.

Every contribution, big or small, helps to create a meaningful impact for Nana with the time she has left. Please help support Nana and Jessica during this difficult time. Even if you’re unable to donate, sharing this campaign would mean the world.
