My brother is the independent owner operator of Scott Kludt Transports in Rice, MN. This all started on May 20th when he was in Idaho getting a load to come back home. His fiancé Tina of 24 years suspected something wasn’t quite right. Out of concern the shipper was contacted and they checked on him. Scott said he was ok but she wasn’t convinced. Finally, he admitted to her that he needed a doctor. She arranged a taxi to bring him in. He was given 1 litre of fluids, and was treated for flu like symptoms and released. He felt much better after this visit and this reassured us that he just needed rest. But his health quickly declined. On Saturday he managed to call my husband, Jason for help to come get his load as he thought he was too weak to continue driving. He was 19 hours from home so Tina, myself and Jason all tag team drove from Minnesota to Idaho to get him. We kept in steady contact with him but he started sleeping more and was unable to get out of the truck to get water. When we were 10 hours away we felt the contact wasn’t enough and because of the lack of ability to get water or food himself we called the Idaho police department for a wellness check. They confirmed he was responsive, was running a temp but he refused to go to the hospital because he was still convinced it was just a bad flu. By the time we got there he was unable to walk steadily and had been sleeping off and on for days. We got him to the hospital in Idaho where we learned that he experienced an Anterior Communicating Artery Aneurysm (stroke) which caused a Subarachoid Hemorrhage (bleeding in the brain). He was then airlifted to Salt Lake City Utah to Intermountain Healthcare Neuro-medical Critical Care unit. He will be in the ICU for a guaranteed 21 days, plus extensive rehab to follow. Scott has a long road to recovery and he is a long way from home. Tina and I have stayed here with him taking shifts so we could get sleep too. Lots of travel for us and motel stays are in our future. He does have insurance, but we all know that doesn’t cover everything and it doesn’t pay his bills. Right now because of him being unable to work he has no income while he recovers. Tina works but it is not enough to cover these items. There is also the expense of family driving, flying and staying at hotels just to stay close and keep him working towards the end goal of recovery and coming home. Please help us give them piece of mind so they can just focus on the long road ahead.
