Santa Cruz, CA has a large population of unhoused residents- and a lack of services to support them. I personally have been working as a clinician for the past year providing direct support to this population, and continue to advocate as best I am able to provide resources, care, and support.
On Thanksgiving, I was able to organize a homemade meal drop off near the Coral Street shelter, an area where a large amount of people congregate and camp. We were able to feed 75 people and hand out necessary supplies such as nonperishables, water, and clothing.
With the upcoming December holidays, I want to organize another meal drop and supply drop off on 12/14- with the goal to fundraise and provide as many coats and winter gear as we can afford. With the upcoming winter and rain, protective clothing is an essential that often becomes a luxury due to the cost associated, and being able to provide a necessary essential can substantially ease one of many stressors facing this population.
Love your neighbor- all of your neighbors. Please feel free to support here, or get in touch with me to volunteer in person!
Wishing everyone joy and warmth this holiday season.
