Support for the Gruman Family During Sandra’s Cancer Journey

Hello! My name is Lisa Lindley, and I am a neighbor and friend of the Gruman family. Since moving to the neighborhood over eight years ago, the Grumans have truly become like family to us. Their generosity and friendship are unparalleled, and their presence has been a blessing to everyone around them. During this challenging period, we want to do everything we can to support them. The Gruman family is deeply loved by many in our community, and your support can make a meaningful difference. Please consider donating to help the family manage any bills and expenses that will arise during this difficult journey.

About Sandra:
Sandra is a dedicated and experienced educator, serving as a veteran second grade teacher at Bailey Park Elementary in Grinnell. Her commitment to her students and her community is evident in everything she does. She is a mom to four kids and a wife to Bill for the last 27 years.

Sandra’s Cancer Journey:
Sandra’s battle with cancer began in late September 2024. Upon diagnosis, she underwent eight rounds of chemotherapy at the Mayo Clinic, with each round requiring a stay of five to seven days. Following these treatments, Sandra received a stem cell transplant. By Day 100 after the transplant, test results showed the disease was in "complete remission." Unfortunately, not long after this hopeful news, Sandra began experiencing new symptoms. Further testing confirmed that the cancer had returned.

Next Steps and Ongoing Challenges:
Sandra will soon be returning to Mayo Clinic for additional chemotherapy treatments, which are expected to continue over the next three to four months. These treatments will require her to travel to the clinic every other week or even more frequently, depending on her medical needs. After completing this round of treatment, further testing will determine the next steps in her care. The uncertainty ahead is daunting, but with the steadfast support of family, friends, coworkers, and the community, we can help ease some of the stress the Grumans are facing by offering financial assistance.

How You Can Help:
The costs associated with frequent travel to and from the Mayo Clinic—a six-hour round trip—as well as expenses for meals, gas, and mounting medical bills, are significant and continue to accumulate. If you are in a position to contribute, any donation to help support the Gruman family during this process would be greatly appreciated. Your generosity will help lighten their burden and allow them to focus on Sandra’s recovery.
