Help Fund San Ignacio Volunteer Emergency Services and Get the Baja XL Roadbook/Travel Guide!
The people and leaders of San Ignacio were extremely grateful for the Baja XL's gift of more than 125 school-supply-filled backpacks during the rally this year. The backpacks were collected by Vice Mayor/Sub Commander Juan M Berrelleza Castro (left) and his brother Marco Antonio Berrelleza Castro (right), who lead the volunteer emergency services department in San Ignacio, providing and maintaining numerous donated firetrucks and ambulances to help the people of and the travelers and visitors to the town and the surrounding area. They are pictured here with San Ignacio mayor Efrain Lastra Salvatierra (center), who joined them and us to celebrate the donation.
They are amazing people with a fierce dedication to the safety of all who live in and visit San Ignacio and the area around it. Maintenance of the vehicles and the gas needed to keep them moving is very expensive and often out of their reach, and very little funding is provided by state and local governments. (They also gave some of us rides around the square when we returned to the town on the way out of San Juanico!)
I received this message from Juan last night: "Hello, good afternoon friend, I hope you are well. Last night we had a very serious accident between a passenger truck and another cargo truck. We couldn't take the fire truck because we didn't have fuel. Would it be possible for you to donate a little bit? With 150 dollars the tank will be filled. Whatever you can donate will be of great help. We also had a fire. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
In order to raise funds to send them for the things they need to keep these services afloat, we are offering The Baja XL Roadbook Part 2 – a 57-page fully illustrated guide with all of the waypoints we provided rally participants and extensive descriptions of points of interest for each day on the trip. You and anyone you know could literally take this book and create a multi-day trip on your own or with a group (albeit with the same risks assumed by all on the rally).
For a minimum donation of $20 I will email the PDF version of the Roadbook to your address. If you don’t want a roadbook but still want to support the volunteer services, please just note that with your donation.
Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks in advance for your support of San Ignacio Volunteer Emergency Services!
