My name is Crystal McVay Parker and I’m the Aunt to Samuel Chastain who was murdered March 12th, 2022 at the age of 19 in North Pole, Alaska many of you know about what had happened and it was a very sad and tragic situation for our family. I am making this GoFundMe to help pay for a memorial monument in the North Pole in remembrance of my beautiful and amazing nephew. I attached a post my sister Shawna Chastain his mother made in regards to talking with the Mayor to make this happen. We need the communities help to make it something special and amazing for everyone in the community to remember him. See below my sisters post, all the fund will go to my sister Shawna to coordinate with the Major to make this happen. Any support is appreciated, shares, and prayers would be amazing. This morning I spoke with our Mayor of North Pole. I had a wonderful long talk with Mayor Terch. He is a really great guy!

In his words, he wants to keep SAM up the way it is. It's not graffiti in his eyes. What he would like to do, is protect Samuel's name and clean up all the other stuff around it. He would also like to have local artists come and sponsor a block surrounding Sam's name and paint a block in their own Alaskan theme. Examples: the Northern lights, Moose, Ravens, Mountains, Alaska Fireweed, etc. With two blocks saved so Sam's Dad and I can write in our own words what the wall means, talking about Sam and what he meant to the people in the community. He even said we can place a plaque there if we wanted too instead, but he thinks the two blocks explaining a little bit about Sam and what happened to him would be a sense of clarity for folks as well and they would have better understanding to why it's there.

I think the Mayor's ideas and plan are absolutely beautiful and I am so grateful that he reached out. I will be coordinating a fundraiser with my little Sister, Crystal McVay, once I know how much it is to sponsor a block. I will be in communication and working with our Mayor with this amazing project moving forward. The PTSA/Booster Club of North Pole High School will be the ones to help clean up the art work around Sam's name the first week of July. If you want to take photos now at the wall, it will be up until then.

Again, I am very grateful that we have a kind-hearted, empathetic, Mayor who thinks Sam deserves a permanent memorial. We are hoping with all the talented artist within our community can come out and make a block special. This will be a part of the beautification project for the under pass, and a way to place our memories of Sam.
