This summer, my sister Sammie will be traveling to Honduras for the 4th year to volunteer with the TIME Global Ministry team. She serves as an operating room nurse at Baptist Medical and Dental Mission International Hospital in the town of Guaimaca. In 2024, over the span of two weeks, 70 volunteers served and completed over 100 life-saving and life-changing procedures.

For Sammie to participate in this program, she has previously spent close to $3,000 out of her own pocket each year! She has volunteered her time, skills, and covered her own expenses without question - taking unpaid time off of work [in between her travel nursing rotations], even bringing her own supplies!

When the team arrives, Sammie and the volunteer surgeons evaluate the patients to determine who might be a candidate to receive surgical care. BMDMI Hospital brings patients in from the surrounding areas - some traveling from all parts of the country to receive quality care at a reduced cost. Fifty patients were cared for in the operating room in the week of service in the summer of 2024.

In addition to Sammie’s medical mission work, she will have an opportunity to make an impact in the local community. She will take fresh water from the hospital compound to a local village. Sammie always packs an extra suitcase full of toys, coloring books and crayons, stuffed animals, clothing, and hygiene items. She takes these to the residents of the village. Samme will visit The Good Shepherd Children’s Home, where children residing here have been abused, abandoned, or orphaned. The home offers a safe and healthy environment, and Sammie will distribute toys and stuffed animals here as well.

My goal is to raise $3500 for Sammie:

$1250 - housing, food, and safe transportation during her stay

$1500 - roundtrip airfare

$750 - suitcases/travel bags filled with surgical supplies, clothing, and toys
