Help Transform Shelter Dogs into Life-Changing Service Animals
Hi, I’m Samantha Adderley, and I’m working on my Eagle Scout project to support Medical Mutts, a nonprofit organization based in Indianapolis. Medical Mutts rescues shelter dogs and trains them to become medical alert service dogs for individuals with disabilities, including epilepsy, diabetes, PTSD, and anxiety. Their mission not only gives these dogs a second chance at life but also helps people regain independence and confidence.
My Project: Updating the "Quarantine Room", the area all rescued dogs live during the beginning of their stay at Medical Mutts.
In September 2025, I’ll be leading a team of Scouts and volunteers to renovate the "Quarantine room" at the Medical Mutts facility. This room is used as a Quarantine area for the newly rescued dogs before they can begin their training. Dogs stay in the room for 2 weeks before they are given the all clear to begin, and during that time, the are monitored for disease and watched for any other issues that could prevent them from completing their training. The project will include a total refresh of the room, installing shelving units, painting walls, adding murals, laying new flooring, and adding storage solutions.
Goal: Raising $1,000 to Fund the Renovation
To make this project a reality, I’m aiming to raise $1,000. Every dollar will go directly toward purchasing materials and supplies needed for the renovation. Your support will help create a safe, functional, and welcoming environment where rescue dogs can learn and thrive.
Why Medical Mutts Matters
Medical Mutts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that trains rescued dogs to be service animals for people with invisible disabilities. They specialize in scent detection for conditions like diabetes, seizures, and psychiatric disorders. Their programs include both fully-trained service dogs and owner-dog training options. The organization has rescued nearly 300 dogs in its lifetime and continues to train 25–40 service dogs annually.
