Samantha Gervais is my closest friend in the world. She's a former Texan who had moved to California. However, after Samantha and Cory Burns rekindled their relationship, Sam decided to move her family to join Cory again in Texas.

Samantha is an amazing and giving person, who helped my family tremendously when I was pregnant with my last child. She selflessly did so much to help us after that birth, and when COVID hit, she took care of our youngest daughter while our two oldest children did virtual school from home. Even beyond these huge ways that she helped us, in many other small and big ways, she always shows herself to be the truest of friends.

While her first few years back in Texas were happy, Sam and Cory's situation became very complicated for health reasons. Unfortunately, in the spring of 2022, he started encountering serious health issues related to a failing liver. He received a new liver in January 2023. Following the transplant, additional health issues were discovered, leading to other serious complications, including the need for weekly paracentesis. On May 30th, Cory was admitted to UT Southwestern Clemence University, where he spent several days fighting for his life. Sadly, he passed away on June 7th at 6:17 am with Samantha by his side.

Recently, Samantha started having serious health issues of her own. She was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. She started chemotherapy and will undergo a double mastectomy in the next few months.

Dealing with this health crisis and transitioning from the loss of Cory has created a very dire situation for Sam and her children. This fundraiser is to support my best friend Samantha with expenses after the difficult loss of her fiancé, Cory. The funds will go directly to Samantha to help support life expenses as she fights her own health battle with breast cancer.
