Help Support the Family of Sam Matthews
Donation protected
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear friend, Sam Matthews, on July 29th. Cancer took this beloved man’s life at just 37 years old.
Sam was the kind of person who was always smiling and made you feel like the most important person in the world. Everyone who knew him was better for it. He was a light in every room, and so many people were changed by his loving example and influence. He was just so good.
I first met Sam while we served together in Nagoya, Japan, and over the years, our friendship grew during our time at BYU, playing intramurals, going on double dates, riding horses, and simply enjoying life. Sam was endlessly optimistic, kind, and genuine; One of the very best people I’ve ever known.
Sam leaves behind his incredible wife, Louisa, and their three beautiful children: two daughters (ages 12 and 9) and a son (age 6). They were his entire world.
Last year, Sam was diagnosed with colon cancer—despite having no significant risk factors. After surgery and rounds of aggressive chemotherapy, the cancer spread to his lungs, liver, and lymph nodes. Sam passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.
At the time of his passing, Sam was an Associate Professor at the University of Wyoming’s College of Business, where he inspired students and colleagues alike.
This fundraiser is to help support Louisa and the children in the difficult days ahead—covering medical bills, funeral expenses, and helping provide some financial stability as they navigate this unimaginable loss.
We hope to raise $75,000 to ease the burden on this young family. Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly to Louisa and the children. If you can’t donate at this time, please consider sharing this campaign to help us spread the word.
Thank you for helping us honor Sam’s memory by supporting the people he loved most.
*funds will be used to support the funeral and ongoing living expenses during the transition.
