Hi neighbors,
My name is Manoj, and I’m grateful to call the Hub home which is right in the heart of San Francisco. This is truly a special neighborhood. We’re connected, vibrant, and just a short walk from so many incredible neighborhoods and cultural districts. More than anything, it’s a community full of people who care! I see that every day through the Hub Club and in how we show up for one another.
Our neighborhood continues to grow in exciting ways, with new housing, beautiful buildings like the Artists Hub, and several homelessness City services located right here. We’ve consistently welcomed these changes and said “yes” to being part of solutions for the broader City, and that’s something to be proud of.
At the same time, we all know there’s an opportunity to make our streets and sidewalks work better for everyone. Maybe in future we should state to the City that we would like more neighborhood cleaning services and systemic safety design changes whenever we get the opportunity to weigh in on new development or services in the area. Clean, safe, and accessible public spaces are essential and we can play a role in making that happen.
For those of us who live in the Hub, blocked sidewalks due to encampments or vehicles isn’t rare - it’s daily. In the past 5 months, I’ve personally submitted fifty nine 311 reports. Many neighbors have done the same. The City does respond, often with large weekly cleanups (conservatively costing $100K a year just for time spent on my tiny street) but that’s not solving the root problem. We need design solutions that prevent these conditions from happening again and again.
In the meantime, consider this my personal request to step up as a community again.
One simple and positive step we can take together is adding more planters and greenery in areas where sidewalks are frequently blocked. This helps beautify our neighborhood while also creating clearer, safer walking paths for everyone.
We’re lucky to already have an incredible group of volunteers through the McCoppin Greening Group who are ready to lead this effort, with support from neighbors like you.
If you’re interested in being part of a solution that’s visible, immediate, and community-driven, we’d love your support. Contributions will go directly toward planters, plants, and maintenance to keep our neighborhood looking and feeling its best. If you'd like to discuss other solutions please consider joining the Hub Club group!
This is our neighborhood, and together we can make it even stronger, safer, and more welcoming for everyone.
