Hi! I’m Sadia Muddassir, a Life Scout from Troop 2119. For my Eagle Scout project, I’m building an interactive waste-education station (Educational Waste-Bin) for MUHSEN to help individuals with disabilities learn to sort compost, recycling, and trash.
The station uses a camera, screen, and large physical buttons to guide users through hands-on learning. I plan to use a Raspberry Pi along with other elements to allow users to interact with the system. The camera will capture an image of the item, which will then be analyzed using a pre-trained image classification model and Python to classify the item into one of three categories: compost, recycle, or trash. I also plan to include an interactive element where the user is prompted to select the correct bin and receives feedback, either positive feedback for a correct choice or guidance if the selection is incorrect. Once the classification is made, the Raspberry Pi will illuminate the appropriate bin using LEDs.
Accessible features include: Braille labels, clear instructional signage and large physical buttons.
This project promotes inclusion, sustainability, and environmental responsibility, and will be used at MUHSEN events and programs as an accessible and an interactive learning tool.
I’m raising funds to cover materials, electronics, and tools to build and install the station. Any contribution will help make this educational and inclusive project a reality!
Thank you for your support!
