Support Ryan & Karela: Home Lost to Fire
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Tammy. On 5/2, my daughter Karela, her husband Ryan, and their two children (13-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter) were displaced by a devastating apartment fire at 3:00 am that led to the entire building being condemned. Thankfully, their family made it out safely with only minor smoke inhalation, but they have lost access to their home and are currently homeless.
The fire did not originate in their unit, but the damage to the building was so severe that they were given no choice but to evacuate immediately. They immediately filed a renters insurance claim on Friday morning, but their adjuster only responded just before leaving for the weekend—and no one else at the company has been willing to step in. The insurance company is refusing to provide temporary housing or support until at least next week, and only if the family pays out of pocket now with no guarantee of reimbursement.
To make matters worse, although some affected tenants received help from the Red Cross, Karela and her family never got a call back. Every attempt they've made to reach out has gone straight to voicemail with no response.
Karela and Ryan are doing everything they can, but with no emergency support, no access to their home, and two children to care for, they are at a breaking point. They need funds immediately to cover temporary housing, food, clothing, and essentials for the kids. Even if help comes next week, they can’t afford to wait that long without risking their family’s health and safety.
Karela and Ryan are a hardworking couple who now face the enormous burden of replacing clothing, essentials for their young children, and finding a safe place to stay—all without immediate financial support. Even if insurance does come through next week, they simply cannot afford the upfront expenses required to keep their children sheltered and cared for in this moment of crisis.
We are asking for your help to get them through this incredibly difficult time. Every dollar donated will go directly toward temporary housing, clothing, food, and basic necessities for the kids. No family should have to face homelessness because of office technicalities.
Please share this campaign and donate if you can. Every bit helps, and we are deeply grateful for your support.
