Dear kind souls,

I'm reopening this campaign and I want to be upfront about why, because a lot has changed since we last updated you and not in the ways we hoped, and I think you deserve to know the full picture.

As of August 1st, Mami Rully has officially retired, which means she no longer has any income coming in, and as a trans woman in Indonesia there is no pension, no safety net, nothing waiting for her after decades of giving everything she had to her community, and she has spent her life making sure others had somewhere to turn and right now we want to make sure she does too.

At the same time, the shelter has had to move, because the community around the previous location made it clear they did not want WCC or the trans women living there to stay, and so they had to leave and start over somewhere new, and the new place needed a lot of work, way more than we anticipated, and what was supposed to be a manageable move turned into something much heavier financially, the budget ran out fast then kept going, and Mami Rully did what she always does, she covered what was missing herself with money she doesn't really have and it's only the 6th of August and the shelter is already deep in the red.

I want to be transparent about something, the shelter does receive 7 million IDR monthly from a sister organization and that support is real, but given everything this transition has cost and the fact that Mami Rully now has no personal income at all, it is not enough esp in the very beginning of something that still needs so much work and attention, and there are four elderly residents at the shelter who depend on it every single day and Mami Rully is the one making sure that happens with her limited/non-exsitance money.

I initiated this campaign for our beloved Mami Rully, and everything raised here goes solely to her and to the new shelter, to cover what this transition has cost and the next month(s) and if you've supported this before THANK YOU, it meant more than we can say, and if you're new here, Mami Rully is the founder of Waria Crisis Center in Yogyakarta, one of the most quietly courageous, kindest, selfless people I have ever known.

Mami Rully is someone I owe a lot to, more than I can properly put into words, and starting this fundraiser is the least I could do for someone who has spent decades doing quiet, unglamorous, deeply human work for trans communities and people in crisis in Yogyakarta as the founder of Waria Crisis Center.

She left a stable government job to do this, and she has never once stopped, and right now she is going through an incredibly hard time. She lost her mother and younger sibling within six months of each other this year, she is navigating her own health challenges, and she is buried in personal debt, not debt she took on for herself, but debt she took on to keep others safe, which is so very Mami Rully, and in the last six months alone that has amounted to around IDR 16.5 million (around €850). I'm one of the many people whose life she has quietly held together. When I came back to Indonesia sick and grieving and completely undone, she was there, and I honestly don't know if I would have made it through without her. This fundraiser is my way of trying to give back even a fraction of what she has given, and I hope you'll join me.

Everything raised goes toward easing her debt, her medical care, and giving her the space to finally rest a little. Any amount helps <3
