Hello, my name is Rubi. I am a mom of 4 wonderful boys. During the 1st week of March, on a Tuesday, one of my boys, who is 9 years old, got sick during school. I was called to pick him up due to him having stomach pain. I was told that he even looked really pale. I went to pick him up and I right away took him to the ER where he had ultrasounds done, blood tests, and x-rays. After hours of waiting, I was told that they had found a mass near his liver. But since they don't have pediatrics at their hospital, they decided to transfer him to a different hospital. After an exchange of the findings with another nearby hospital, they decided to transfer him to Children's Hospital. We were transferred late, and we had to wait until the next day, which was Wednesday, for them to run tests on him. On Thursday of that week, doctors talked to me and my husband and told us that unfortunately, the mass found near his liver was a cancer tumor and the next step was to perform a biopsy to see what type of cancer it was. The biopsy was done on that Friday, and we had to wait until Monday for the results. We actually got the results until Tuesday where the doctors told us that he had a mix of 2 types of cancer in his liver which would put his cancer at stage 4. As is, knowing that he had cancer was devastating and then knowing that it was at stage 4 was even more devastating. The doctors told us that they had 2 options of chemo for us and that no matter what we decided or what happened there was 70% chance chemo would work and 30% chance that it might not work. One option was chemo weekly, and the second option was chemo every 3 weeks with weekly visits with his doctors and 1 medication being part of the chemo every 7 days. My husband and I talked and decided to take chemo every 3 weeks to not expose him to medications very often with us being afraid to see him down often. We want him to live his life as normal as possible which is also challenging because he can't be out around a lot of people without a face mask. He can't be exposed to the sun due to him having dry skin. Everything has been challenging but more challenging has been me not working and my husband unfortunately was left out in the blue with his job because the person he was working as a painter with has recently retired. He gets work from a friend here and there but hasn't been enough for us to maintain us a whole month. There are times where we don't even have enough for food. He manages to always figure things out, but I know he has been asking for borrowed money. We live in a 1-bedroom place, but we want him to have more space to move around and the funds from your help would be used for us to rent out a new place with at least 2 bedrooms where my boys would have more space. Anything would help and I would be grateful with your help. Thank you for taking your time to read our story and your attention. I really appreciate it.
$3000 will be used to move into a bigger place for my child to have more space
