Rowan’s 5th Annual CCMC Toy Donation
It’s that time of year again!
We are coming up on FIVE years since Rowan’s Button Battery Incident
For anyone who doesn’t know his story, on November 20, 2020 our 10 month old son, Rowan, swallowed a button battery that he found on the ground unbeknownst to us. The battery was lodged on an angle in his esophagus creating a chemical reaction that started to burn the soft tissue, but still allowed him to breathe. It wasn’t until he began excessively drooling and becoming extremely irritable hours later that we knew something was wrong and took him to the ER. Within minutes of getting an X-ray, the entire ER staff was running to get him into emergency surgery to remove the battery. It was then that we learned just how dangerous these tiny batteries are. Even after the battery was removed, the doctors informed us that the damage could continue further leading to permanent damage or perforation of his esophagus so he needed to be closely monitored for weeks after.
Rowan spent 2 weeks in the hospital recovering. He made a full recovery with no permanent damage and we are beyond grateful to have him here with us today. We are certainly one of the lucky ones ❤️
We knew fairly quickly that we wanted to give back to CCMC, the Children’s hospital that saved Rowan’s life. In 2021 we created Rowan’s CCMC Toy Donation and raised over $5,000 in just two days!
Here we are at year 5! ♥️
Like in the past years, we have set up our GoFundMe page for donations. All the monetary donations we receive will be used to purchase toys for the children at the hospital (our kids love doing this every year!) We also have created an Amazon Wishlist with hospital approved items for anyone who doesn’t want to use GoFundMe but would like to purchase a toy to donate. The items on the wishlist will be sent directly to us and we will deliver to the hospital along with the toys we buy with the monetary donations. (Don’t forget to put your name on the Amazon purchases so I know who it came from).
These donations are so special to our family. Not only does it give to the children at the hospital but it raises awareness of the dangers of button batteries. We hope that Rowan’s story is heard by more and more people every time we share it. Sharing his story could save a life ❤️
As the giving season approaches, I feel the urge to remind everyone..
-Check the new toys that come in to your house -Check what kind of batteries a toy requires before you buy it -Store all batteries in a battery organizer and out of reach of children (highly recommend the Battery Daddy, $25 on Amazon)
-Don’t buy the holiday/birthday singing cards -Keep the remotes that power the Christmas decor out of reach of children
-Tape the backings of any device that has a button battery
