(Abby Ham checks in with the city of Asheville as residents continue recovering from Helene's devastating flooding. WBIR channel 10)
Hello all!
At the time of writing this around 6 months ago, Hurricane Helene devastated the southeastern parts of the U.S., causing many landslides, monstrous flooding, and high winds in places such as Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina, to name a few. Hurricane Helene left towns and cities isolated or completely gone, turned roads into riverbeds, washed away whole bridges and highways, damaged water and sewage systems, and left over 126,000 homes unlivable or entirely washed away. One of the most impacted areas was Western North Carolina, causing an estimated $78.7-$93.5 billion dollars' worth of damage and led to 221 dead or missing.
So much work has been done by nonprofit organizations, including All Hands and Hearts. With over 38,000 hours of volunteer work, 910+ volunteers, 250+ homes cleared, and 400+ lives impacted, it is abundantly clear that they have provided critical support to the area. All Hands and Hearts has deployed volunteer teams across Asheville and the surrounding areas, performing debris removal, muck and guts, and sanitations to over 153 sites, making dangerous and hazardous spaces livable again for folks who have been affected by the flooding. However, the storm's aftermath will be felt for months if not years and they urgently need help.
Therefore, I feel a very strong calling to go back down and help provide assistance to those who are still in need. However, I can't do it alone and I need your help. This fundraiser will support me and go towards my travel costs, food, and any emergencies that may arise.
Thank you all in advance, and to follow my journey, I will be posting daily updates on Facebook and Instagram.
