Recently I visited my mother in Valdosta, GA. I was stationed at Moody AFB when I served in the USAF. While I was stationed there, my mother bought a charming house, and built a new life with wonderful friends and a lovely church community. Along with many in her community, her home was damaged in Hurricane Helene.
Hurricane Helene, which devastated North Carolina also devastated Valdosta, including my mom's home. During my visit I assessed the damage and quickly determined that FEMA will not cover the damages to her roof and property. Her homeowners insurance is also a problem due to hurdles and loopholes.
I have reached out to many organizations and found a program through Habitat for Humanity that will help off set the costs to fix my moms roof and build a ramp to accommodate her disabilities/abilities. Paul and I plan to go down to Georgia and help with the construction process.
Life is expensive. We need to avoid taking out a loan by crowdsourcing enough funds for roof repairs and a wheelchair ramp. Any funds that we raise over the costs will be donated directly to Habitat for Humanity to help another family in need.
Thank you for reading and considering to donate. Please share.
