Support Riley’s Midwifery Placement in Ghana
Donation protected
My name is Riley, and as many of you know, I am a midwifery student. With a deep-rooted passion for women’s health, human rights, and ensuring that every woman receives safe, respectful, and compassionate care.
This summer, I’ve been given an incredible opportunity: to travel to Ghana and work in both government and private hospitals, witnessing first-hand how limited resources and deeply held cultural traditions shape the experience of childbirth. It’s a chance to learn from real lives, real stories, and the hands-on wisdom of midwives working under challenging conditions.
I’ll be shadowing experienced midwives through every stage of maternity care – sitting in on patient consultations, witnessing births in the delivery room, assisting in theatre, and supporting new mothers through postnatal care. I’ll also have the opportunity to speak with women about family planning and birth control – conversations that are not just medical, but deeply personal, often shaped by history, culture, and faith.
But this placement isn’t just about learning clinical skills. It’s about becoming the kind of midwife I’ve always dreamed of being – one who listens with empathy, cares without judgment, and advocates fiercely for every woman’s right to a dignified birth and beyond.
I believe with all my heart that every woman, no matter where she lives, deserves to feel empowered, respected, and safe during one of the most powerful moments of her life.
This journey will shape me in ways no classroom ever could – giving me the cultural insight, confidence, and compassion I’ll carry with me into my career in the NHS and far beyond.
As a student, I’m self-funding the entire trip – covering everything from travel and accommodation to vaccinations and insurance. The total comes to over £3,000, and while I’m saving as much as I can, I’d be incredibly grateful for any support you can offer.
Every donation – no matter the size – brings me one step closer to Ghana, and one step closer to making a real difference in the lives of women and babies who need it most.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading and for being part of this journey with me. I will be sure to keep everyone updated and share my experiences as I appreciate your support in helping me make a difference.
With love and gratitude,
Riley
